OpenRouter alternative

OpenRouter alternative for teams

If you use an aggregated model API like OpenRouter, or you are comparing LLM routers, and you also need team budgets, access control and audit on top of one API for many models, take a look at Tokenjoy.

What stays the same: one endpoint, many models

  • OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible; change base_url and the API key to connect
  • Switch models by changing the model parameter, using names from the Tokenjoy model catalog
  • Streaming, function calling and vision, depending on the model and channel

What Tokenjoy adds for teams

  • Layered budgets: quota flows from company to department, project, member and API key, and calls are blocked when it is used up
  • Access control: allowed models per department and per API key, checked on every call
  • Call audit: caller, model, token usage and cost logged per call; filter by department, member, model or channel and export CSV
  • Channel routing: several channels per model, split by priority and weight, with automatic failover and retries
  • Deployment: SaaS and self-hosted run the same implementation

Who it fits

Tokenjoy fits companies where several teams share models, spend must be attributed to departments and members, calls must be auditable, or data location matters. If you are an individual trying models and one key is enough, a plain aggregated API is probably all you need.

Migrate in three steps

  • Create an API key under “My keys” in the console and set its quota and allowed models
  • Set the SDK base_url to https://app.tokenjoy.me/v1
  • Use a model name from the Tokenjoy model catalog in the model parameter
                  from openai import OpenAI
client = OpenAI(api_key="tj-...", base_url="https://app.tokenjoy.me/v1")

FAQ

Is Tokenjoy affiliated with OpenRouter?

No. Tokenjoy is an independent product. OpenRouter is a trademark of its owner and is mentioned here only to describe the use case.

How much code changes when moving from OpenRouter?

With an OpenAI-compatible SDK you usually change only the base_url, the API key and the model name. What a model can do depends on its protocol and upstream channel.

Can I self-host it?

Yes. Tokenjoy runs as SaaS or self-hosted. When self-hosted, logs stay local and you run the upgrades.
